Babies and young children have the tendency to manifest symptoms that are a result of their constitutional predisposition. There are four main constitutional patterns observed in clinic:
Lung deficiency pattern: trouble breathing, skin issues, susceptible to catching cold frequently, allergies, skin hypersensitivity.
Liver deficiency pattern: behavioral issues, problems with sleep, muscle spasms/spasticity problems.
Spleen deficiency pattern: underdevelopment due to malnourishment, digestive problems.
Kidney deficiency pattern: issues with bedwetting, cold extremities, physical and/or mental development problems, slow development.
After a thorough initial consultation, a child's constitutional strengths and weaknesses are evaluated and discussed with the parents. A custom-tailored treatment plan is created which may include Oriental medicine modalities such as moxibustion, gua sha, fire cupping, tui na, shonishin, and AcuLaser. With the non-invasive and extremely safe Class 3A cold laser, kids can receive a painless treatment with the same effects that an acupuncture treatment would have! These treatments are not meant to replace a pediatrician's care, but to complement it and enhance overall wellbeing. When both Western and Eastern treatments are combined harmoniously, that is when the best results are seen.
